Become A State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
The 3R Foundation was founded to support the Akron community through a collaboration of resources. It’s vision is to Redirect, Rebuild and Restore the condemned and forgotten.
A new life changing career opportunity offered by The 3R Foundation for those interested in becoming a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) was launched in late 2025. Our collaboration with partners at MedCert in Highland Square and Stark State College on East Market Street presents a valuable opportunity…especially for those currently working as a home health aide. A home health aide often experiences an erratic and inconsistent schedule with limited income. STNA certification provides an added measure of stability with regular hours and a stable income by providing cerification so an individual can work in a medical office, retirement community or in the medical field. This is a career opportunity in the health care field and not just a job…one that will not be replaced by artificial intelligence.
The 3R Foundation believes in long term solutions while addressing short term needs. In a process of thorough vetting, we REDIRECT lives away from cycles of hardship, REBUILD self-worth and RESTORE a sense of hope. With an empathetic and understanding ear for those we serve and in partnership with community employers, collaborative social agencies, churches and other community resources, we offer opportunities and encouragement leading to the ultimate goal…a sustainable future rather than the chaos of the moment!
The monies we are using for the scholarship are donations to The 3R Foundation. We are very serious about awarding these scholarships to people who will complete the courses and want a future in the medical profession. To be good stewards of these funds we are asking you to review and commit to the following requirements.
- Successfully complete The 3R Financial Road Course
- 30 minute interview to assess your level of interest
- Must have High School diploma or GED
- Test Negative 1-Step Tb Test (Prior to Clinicals)
- Present a valid Photo ID
- Have your original Social Security Card
- Physical Examination (Prior to Clinicals)
- Successfully complete a background check
You also must commit to:
- To attend EVERY class and complete all course work.
- Have access to a computer.
Med-Cert conducts 2 different types of classes. You must choice which class you are interested in attending. The classes will be held at Med-Cert Training Center at 733 W. Market Street, Akron, OH, 44303.
2-week course
- Program Length:2 weeks
- Learning Method:Hybrid: (Day 1 in-person, day 2-5 online, days 6-10 in-person)
- Class Hours:Monday through Friday 8am – 4:30pm
This format combines the benefits of both in-person and online learning, providing flexibility while ensuring hands-on experience and direct interaction with instructors.
5-week course
- Program Length:5 weeks
- Learning Method:Hybrid: (This class meets in person every Saturday, Sundays are self study online. Week 5 meets in-person Saturday and Sunday for Clinicals)
- Class Hours:Saturday and Sunday 9am – 5:30pm
